FAQs about our login, privacy, and account policies
We are requiring this for some pages, posts, templates, and other assets to protect against AI crawlers and bots. We have to protect our material, intellectual property, and services just as our clients look to VPC to protect their interests.
Search engines like Google have crawled the web, including our site, for a long time. But the implicit exchange was search engines would index material then direct people to the best site with the best information. This has changed with AI-based search summaries from Google, OpenAI, and many others. These bots crawl far more frequently, consume bandwidth, and wholesale lift material we have spent many years developing as a summary. We disagree with this approach and are requiring logins to ensure our site is made by humans for humans.
Accounts are available for free, and while we may add or modify levels later, we do not have plans to at this time.
Your account contains your name and email address, which is the minimum information we need to create an account on our site. We don’t store any other information and do not want to. We take steps to protect our site, but our biggest protection is we don’t personally store any sensitive information about anyone on this site.
We are one of the rare sites on the web that do not use Google Analytics or other Google-based, Meta (Facebook)-based, or X-based (formerly Twitter) widgets, services, tie-ins, or other code. This helps protect your privacy.
The only information gathered on this site about visitors is the minimum required by our website host, Kinsta, to serve information to your device and Plausible.io, a privacy-protecting web analytics engine that helps us understand what pages on our site are most visited, at what times, and from what referring sources (like Google, Bing, etc.). All of this information is anonymized.
Our email list management system is hosted by Mailchimp. We do not sell, share, or otherwise distribute our email list to anyone, ever.
