Fire code consultants for Joint Commission standards and safety codes

Unlike engineering, architecture, or other construction-related consulting firms, Vantage Point Consulting is staffed with current and former firefighters, healthcare safety experts, code officials, and life safety professionals. We bring unique insight into how building and fire codes impact a facility, its staff, and visitors through overall complete fire and life safety code consulting and audits.

With VPC, your team benefits from:

  • A thorough document review
  • Above the ceiling inspection of fire and smoke barriers
  • Fire and smoke door inspections
  • Exit signage evaluation
  • Egress evaluation
  • Fire suppression system checks

Performance-based design for complete code compliance

VPC fire code consultants look at how your fire protection system interacts with other systems and processes. For instance, we can look at your services and test if your evacuation plans align with your continuity of operations plans (COOP), or how local emergency management interacts with a fire alarm at your facility. It’s a comprehensive performance-based design life safety strategy that ensures your building works for and with your people and vice versa.

Be survey-ready and prepare for Joint Commission reaccreditation with confidence

New for 2026, The Joint Commission is updating its standards used by healthcare facilities and critical access hospitals. The updates, which consolidate and rewrite the Life Safety and Environment of Care standards, aim to improve alignment with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Conditions of Participation. The new standards will take effect on January 1, 2026, and feature a simplified structure, with 714 requirements removed or consolidated into broader standard categories.

But the “removed or consolidated” is mostly consolidating to align with new CMS Conditions of Participation, which incorporate the NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code, and NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, along with additional referenced codes.

There are few eliminations, and the core standards are largely as they were. The result is a significant change in documentation requirements. Healthcare facilities will need to cite new, updated standards as part of surveys and code compliance.

We have in-depth knowledge of these documentation requirements and can evaluate your facility, update your documents, and ensure all other applicable codes are in order.
